    I know that the makers have their reasons for using the BSD-2 clause license, but Lunduke, please, tell them the story of khtml and the licenses it was under, just to be repackaged, reworked and closed by apple, google, and every other company, and they will do it again.

    Great ideas for a browser & philosophy …& then they use exclusively US-based, closed, proprietary, privacy-invasive services for their community in Microsoft GitHub & Discord. I sure as heck hope there is a goal have free software tools for their free software project else they are cutting off an entire portion of community & hurting accessibility/privacy in the process.

    My 2009 laptop currently runs Debian 12 with LXDE, in under 400 MB RAM. With the 4GB it has I can browse the web, watch FullHD movies, play games, etc. Even when it runs Linux Mint with Cinnamon, taking 1.5GB RAM, there's enough left for the same things. The laptop runs great with the SSD I put in, and I'm pretty sure it will be usable for a while longer. Of course it's no longer a daily driver, which is why I don't need it for everything, but it can do a lot anyway. On my main PC I already have 64GB RAM, so I can do a lot more.😆

    in summary: this video is filled with bloat, with only around 20% being relevant their are other things that may also matter however, the topic of the video is linux sucks, i'd say 40% of the video should be somewhere else where it would be more relevant. the remaining 40% does not matter and is not news, or is mr. luke repeating himself there is a jarring lack of sources provided and some of the information is dubious at best and/or highly editorialized well done mr luke, you have succsesfully gotten lots of engagment out of me, next time if you take anything from what i have said, please include sources.

    i've just looked into the suse stuff and idk what you mean by alienate half of their users, they said that if you can't tolerate the mascot being a rainbow bow 1/12 of the year they don't want you in their community, and JUST 1 of the people in suse said people who can't are rotten flesh that they are happy they are able to cut out, and are happy the pride colours were able to expose the rot. which they said on twitter which most people won't even see. others did also say that they didn't want people who can't be inclusive in their community. 50% being alienated is incredibly skepticle.

    what will happen to distributions of linux? well it depends and putting it all into 1 question is bad as really there are so many different distribution and they will all go in different ways. you go from 1 that seems pretty to another which is not bad but rather just an unknown, this creates a negative bias towards the ubuntu change. this order is weird as ubuntu is far bigger and more important from my view. therefore i can't see how you have styled this in a positive light. (i haven't kept up with linux for a while so idk if fedora is actually huge now or something)

  • @Rupertvass

    fearmongering about what if's is no reason for linux sucking. virus makers and devs are in a constant "battle" there is no what if, eventually they will but the developers will also develop new protections

  • @Rupertvass
    @Rupertvass 8 годин тому

    linux getting viruses does actually suck, finally something after so much padding even then right after you talked about how things like ubuntu are taking significant steps to combat this, if anything this would mean that linux doesn't suck as they are being proactive in case of future viruses also love how you didn't talk about why in the ubuntu section

  • @Rupertvass

    it can suck how linux isn't getting all the supportor however much you think it should, but that is not "linux sucks" thats the situation sucks, linux can work great and have future prospects that suck. this is not the video for LF budjet complaints, this is even more padding

    you talk about how open source projects aren't receiving high revenue and then say linux foundation could easily 10x their funding for them without noticing an impact, A yes they would that's 2.86 million dollars ie >1% of their revenue from the number you said (260 million)(from just gnome), when they support 1k+ projects that would be a huge investment from their perspective, B you then say instead of funding these open source projects they're funding all these other ones AGAIN LINUX IS NOT THE ONLY THING THEY DO, SH*t, ALL OPEN SOURCE SH*T

    GPL stands for general public license ie copyleft, it means that any derivative works of a GPL must also be distributed under the same license terms, eg: company A makes a GPL product, the company B creates a derivative of that product, this product would then also have to be GPL. please include descriptions when you say a piece of jargon

    You assume backend is a huge php Spaghetti file. Backend frameworks exist forever. A lot of Ajax calls CAN kill a Server more than a Single html request. You have to maintain a whole frontend Team and workflow Extra. If you have a mobile App you often have to write a slightly different api anyway. Maintaining js Apps more than 5 years becomes a pain if it gets a bit more complex. IT seems you assume mostly static pages, mostly crud Apps which are mostly forms is where a frontend adds immens complexity.

    what did you ask if 2 % was the number spent that they spent, also why would they bother answering 1 lone person who seemingly (i haven't seen your other stuff) is goning to be engative about them. no answer is not affirmation as well it means you do not know. it would be supporting what you are saying if they actually responded to you with -yes that is true- but that's not what happened if i, a random person emailed some company asking if they had done some horrible thing idk child labour maybe and they did not respond that is not an affirmation that they did do it, they just didn't care enough to email back

    • @Rupertvass

  • @Rupertvass
    @Rupertvass 10 годин тому

    it would be great if you provided the actual breakdown of spending from the linux foundation instead of just saying only 2% funding towards the kernel with no other context like the breakdown of funding for everything else and what it is they are spending on

    • @Rupertvass
      @Rupertvass 9 годин тому

      it's not even hard just screenshot the damn chart from their annual report, where you got the information in the first place. in fact you would've put more effort in doing what you have done as you would need to make a custom chart

  • @Rupertvass
    @Rupertvass 10 годин тому

    linux foundation change in funding might be shitty but that ain't a reason why linux "sucks" that is showing that the direction that company may seem a bit sketchy in terms of linux support, however it's only the amount on the linux kernal alone. looking it up i found that they are involved in lots of open source projects in general(over a thousand) and that many of these other projects they assist/work on improve the linux ecosystem.

    I think there should be a serenityOS foundation that would do the same thing. Basically use 100% of its money to hire the serenityOS core maintainers as full time programmers and to hire 5 full time OS engineers with real experience with commercial OS to develop serenityOS full time. In that case, a few stretch goals would be a good thing, namely C++ 20, ECMA 262 14th edition, EXT4, OpenZFS, Filesystem Hierarchy Standard 3.0, POSIX 2017, and Single Unix Specification 2018 compliance. In my view Linux Standard Base 5.0 compatibility should only be implemented once the previous standards are implemented and working.
